Well, you have to be able to answer that question for your potential clients too. (Spoiler alert: And you can’t just say, “Because…just take my word for it.”)
How can you do that? Well, you could…
Get an endorsement from Oprah.
(Too bad that in itself requires a small miracle.)
Be amazing at writing posts and emails that make sales (aka copywriting).
(If you’ve been getting *crickets* to your content, congratulations. You’ve started the loooooong journey it takes to master this skill.)
Showcase your literal mountain of testimonials.
(Oh wait…that’s the catch-22 of starting a business! You need clients before you can get testimonials. But, potential clients want to see testimonials before they hire you.)
So what if you don’t have an endorsement from Oprah, killer copywriting skills, or a mountain of testimonials?
You could follow popular “wisdom” and share lots of value in PDF’s, emails, and social media posts.
That’s what I did at first.
Spoiler alert: It didn’t work!
I spent months cranking out one new piece of content after the next. No one cared. And it was really good content too…
Like this value-packed, super-dense 41-page pdf I created for my career coaching business….
Even though I poured my heart into it and gave so much value in it, the PDF didn’t help me get a single client.

Despair Content. Where you keep on cranking out new posts, PDF’s, and emails, hoping/wishing/praying your latest piece of content is the one that’ll make a sale. Finally. Except it doesn’t.)
The reason your PDF’s, emails, and social media posts aren’t making you sales…
There’s a common misconception that PDFs, emails, and social media posts are the key to building your online business.
Yes, they’re helpful at certain points in your business, BUT here’s the truth:
You can’t rely on them alone to drive sales when you’re starting out and/or have a tiny or non-existent audience.
Take the traditional PDF model of marketing. You work your butt off to get 100, maybe even 200 people to give you their email in exchange for your PDF (hustling the whole time!), and after all that, only one or two book a sales call. Which doesn’t even guarantee that they’ll end up buying from you.
Those aren’t numbers that create a healthy business, much less help it grow.
Especially when you have a small or non-existent audience, you need something that speaks to way more than one or two people out of every few hundred.
You could try an email funnel. But how do you explain what makes your program, coaching, or course different in just a few emails?
And that’s if your audience even opens those emails!
Not to mention the level of copywriting skills you need to be able to write emails that sell. (It took me about three years of practice and tens of thousands of dollars spent learning the skill before I got there.)
What about social media posts? That’s where all the buyers are anyway, right? Not exactly. Social media is designed for engagement, not selling.
Sure, you can get clients that way, but if that’s the only thing you’re relying on to build your business…you’re setting yourself up for grinding, not growing.
Plus, social media posts disappear as quickly as the newsfeed does, so even if you do produce the world’s best Instagram caption, it’s gone before the sun sets.
The HARD way to build trust and make sales
(You could do it this way, but why would you want to?)
You could build trust the old fashioned way. Aka the hard and manual way. By personally speaking and connecting with each potential client.
The good news: It works.
The not so good news…it’s the business equivalent of manually building your own house brick by brick. From personal experience, I can tell you: it’s back-breaking.
To get my first ten clients, I must have spoken to over fifty people. And I’m not talking about one-time conversations either. We’re talking sometimes weeks to months of relationship building via emails and calls. And to sell out my first course, I did almost 50 sales calls (in two weeks!).
While I was grateful for making sales and getting awesome clients…I was burned out!
Definitely not what I had in mind when I was thinking of my “dream business.”
That’s why when I was introduced to webinars, I knew it was the missing piece of marketing my business had been looking for.
Think about it:
What better way to build that must-have trust with a potential client than by giving them the chance to learn from you for 30 to 40 minutes straight? (After all, that’s why speaking personally to potential clients is so effective.)
Even more importantly, webinars give you a chance to convey your value and showcase your expertise way more so than you ever could in a PDF, email, or post.
Especially if you’re not a pro at marketing, copywriting, or sales. (Because no one is when they’re starting out.)
Basically everything you might be able to explain to a potential client in a 1-on-1 conversation, you can put into a webinar. Saving you the time and energy of having to talk to every single person. Over and over again. (While basically saying the same thing.) In essence, automating that trust-building.
In short: Webinars give you an opportunity to truly connect with your audience. To show them how you’re different. And to make sales right there on the spot — without them even needing to speak to you. (And even if they do still need to speak to you before they buy, they come onto the call ready and excited about working with you.)
Plus, you can create it once and keep using it over and over again instead of needing to constantly create new content to make sales. (Who has the time for that?!)
There’s just one “catch”…

Flashback to the beginning of my business…
